Oona and I went to Hebden Bridge to The Old Tree-house shop there to buy a sling. We ended up borrowing a Hoppediz. I wasn’t sure about it at first because I hadn’t worked out how to create a ‘seat’ so she kept straightening her legs and sliding out. I didn’t like it at all. But when we went to the sewing class at Stitch my friends Debby and Mel were there and between them they taught me how to do it and from that point on I’ve really loved the ring sling…we both have! I then looked online though and found that there are much prettier slings than this so I decided to return it and buy a print I liked.
The photos below were taken a bit last minute. We were on our way to Hebden to return it and had called in at Asda…I remembered I had promised to blog about our baby carrying so I asked the girls to take some pictures so here we are in the Asda loos!
I like the fact that i can see my feet. In the front carry position I can’t see where I am putting my feet and that can be a pain when coming down steps in castles or down cobbled streets etc. I also like that she is more on my hip, and I wasn’t in any discomfort. I could also quickly loosen the rings in order to breast feed and then tighten them again very simply and have her back in the original postion without any fuss.
Oona likes to be next to me but she also likes to get down when she wants and she listens carefully to me once she has told me she wants to get down (by trying to throw herself out, backwards!) I tell her she can get out and exactly what I am doing and say “Wait!” and she watches me open the rings and loosen the rings then I pop her on the ground and she stands really patiently whilst I lift the fabric over her head and she is free to run away. Which she does!
I like to tuck the length of the sling underneath Oona’s bottom as I really don’t like all the fuss of the extra fabric, I find it gets in the way and annoys me!
