Hello you lovely lot!
Just writing you a quick update to let you know I’m still here! I’ve really struggled with keeping up with the blog as I’ve been in such terrible pain with my leg and back. I had an MRI and it was two slipped discs. To give you the quick version the slipped discs slipped some more and it basically got so bad that I could no longer walk or get to the toilet. One of the ‘red flags’ as they call it, for back problems is problems ‘down there’ loss of feeling in the saddle region and altered sensation as well as continence problems…and I started to experience the latter.
I called 111 and they sent an ambulance on 12th Sept and I had the operation (a discectomy and laminectomy) on 14th. Managed to get home on the 15th. Only a four day hospital stay but I can assure you it felt like six months! Expressed milk for Oona whilst I was there, partly to preserve our breastfeeding journey and partly due to discomfort with engorgement. The whole experience was pretty crappy and I’ve basically been stuck in my bedroom
hiding from the kids resting since.
Whilst I’ve been here there have been loads of things popping through my post box. We’ve had a box of yellow moon craft arrive full of Autumn/Halloween goodies to do, we’ve got invitations to Chill Factore, Grip n Go Rossendale and Diggerland which I’ve accepted but for obvious reasons we haven’t been able to go as yet. Orchard Toys sent us their Shopping List game which we will play with and review, Imogen will probably vlog about that and I will also get her to do a vlog on the pretty little Cicciobello Rumbly Tummy Doll I reviewed from my hozzy bed! I’ve also been buying things including a large sized Bionic Gear Bag which is just too scrumptious for words and yet another yarn pack for a blanket for me (bet you I end up giving it away…everything I make ends up being swiped by someone!) Another thing I bought that I haven’t mentioned were some absolutely beautiful stitch markers…unnecessary but, you know, necessary and a silver ring designed to help keep tension whilst crocheting.
I’ve inherited a Singer Sewing machine which needs fixing up and bought ANOTHER 40s/50s clock and a 70s watch…for someone who is late for absolutely everything and has utterly no concept of time such as myself it is kind of ironic that I find time pieces so very appealing! To me I think it is the romance of them. For me nothing conveys a period in time quite as perfectly as a watch or clock! And think of how personal they are, all the people that pay attention to the object on such a regular basis! A watch is such a personal item, worn every day, checked by the wearer frequently throughout the day and I’m sure you know yourself if you have a clock on your wall you don’t think about how many times you look at it until it gets moved or thrown away and then you just look at the empty space out of habit …anyway I am blathering on! I find them romantic and appealing and I will write another long and blathery post when I take some pictures and you can see them too!
I also intend to decorate the living room as soon as I can. The colours of my living room are kind of Spring/Summer tones and last year I felt the Autumn, Halloween and then Christmas decorations and themes jarred a little with the existing decor. I thought I would do it the old lady way from now on and have new soft furnishings in a cosier colourway so that when Spring comes I can put them away and get the Spring/Summer ones out again. I need new lighting, curtains, cushions and maybe some lovely chunky afghans in jewel colours for warmth and that cosy homely feel.
I also have to tell you about my chickens. Chickens are wonderful pets to keep and so rewarding but you really have to be fit enough to clean them out and look after them properly. I’ve had to make a few changes where they are concerned due to my temporary disability and as a result of these changes am hoping to link up with another company so watch this space.
It was my intention to give you the low down on my plans for the children’s academic year too and I haven’t gotten round to that even though the children have started back into their new(ish) routines, Paul is having to take time off work to get them to their various activities and supervise them during the day until I am better.
So… lots of plans! I’ve not been able to action anything, not even been able to crochet things! But plans are afoot and blog posts will happen. I promise!
